Series 550 System With Vertical Picket Infill

  • Series 550 is a non-welded aluminum pipe, picket rail system
  • Rail is factory assembled in sections for shipping via common carrier.
  • All railings are produced with 1-1/2" schedule 40 aluminum pipe -- 1.90" diameter with a .145" wall thickness; alloy 6063-T6 or T4
  • Pickets are 3/4" round. and spaced 4-1/2" on center.
  • All posts are supplied with internal reinforcing to meet structural requirements.

2. What is Your Railing Height?
Local codes dictate railing height requirements depending on application. Generally, handrails must be located at between 34 and 38 inches; guardrail height should be 36 inches for residential applications and 42 inches for commercial application. Confirm with your local building authorities prior to ordering.

3. Select a Color/Finish
Railing will be supplied pre-finished -- either with a baked-on enamel or anodized. Make your selection from the drop-down menu below. "Mill" finish is not recommended as unfinished aluminum will oxidize and come off as black on to a user's hands or clothing.

4. How Many Level (Non-Ramp or Stair) Posts Will You Need?
You do not need to select a post style at this time. Posts are generally spaced on 4 to 5 foot centers. If you have a stair or a ramp, indicate your post quantities in #9 below..

5. Do You Have a Guardrail That Also Requires a Handrail?
In commercial applications calling for a guardrail on a stair, the guard will be at 42 inches but a handrail will also be required at between 34 and 38 inches. Confirm with your local code authorities. Note here how much handrail you will need for your application -- round off to the nearest foot.

  • Building codes will vary from location to location. Confirm the requirements of your local jurisdiction prior to specifying. In particular, confirm infill opening limitations and height and load requirements.
  • 4" Sphere Rule: Building codes require that guardrails have no opening that is large enough to allow the passage of a 4" sphere.
  • For structural integrity of the system, intermediate posts are generally spaced every 4 to 5 feet.
